WHERE i live the only other brands are
ALPO
IAMS
PURINA
BENEFUL
BONNIE
It seems okay, but these ingredients are of concern:
Sucrose, Rice, Food Acid (338), Glycerine, Sea Salt,
What kind of rice? Why is it not specified? Brown rice is better than white. If it was brown, I think they would have wrote that.
Sucrose? Why on earth would they put sugar in dog food? not good at all… same with Glycerine. And "food acid" ?? What?
Well the veal/ turkey and veg. is too low in protein. same with the can.
Looks good to me, but its really you’re choice, only you can choose what is best for you’re dog.
My advice is to feed what works for your dogs. My dogs do well on Purina, so that’s what I feed. Some dogs can’t handle that. Some have to have the more expensive ones. That’s fine.
If those are the only other foods available, then I’d say that you’d be better off buying those. Since you’re in Australia, you should see if you can get a hold of Ziwi Peak or have it shipped in for cheap. I think it’s a New Zealand brand, but it’s a really good food (dehydrated raw).
You can also make your own dog food. Here’s one from Dr. Michael Fox: http://www.twobitdog.com/DrFox/specialreport_Article.aspx?ID=3bb59b68-4021-498c-a62d-3da06201ae1f&seword=recipe
Or you can just Google ‘dog food recipes’. If you want you can also look at the ingredients in raw foods and supplement your dog’s kibble with those. I like Primal ( http://www.primalpetfoods.com/ ) and Bravo ( http://www.bravorawdiet.com/bravoproducts.html ) and Nature’s Logic ( http://www.natureslogic.com/ ) or Stella and Chewy’s ( http://www.stellaandchewys.com/ )
Yeah, looks good, the first product on the list is actual meat and the second is a meat product (good) and the grain is ‘whole’ (3rd)
the first 3 ingredient are the important 3 as they make up the majority and I don’t see corn or brewers rice o beet pulp (good!) anywhere in there.
The canned stuff is 70% real meat, so that’s good too
As said above the protein is to low on the canned… but that depends on what your going to do with it… mixing them together would be better than feeding separate… maybe 1/4 canned to 3/4 dry just guessing here but yeah they ARE better than the 5 other brands
I personally recommend dry food but it mainly depend on what your dog like.
