High Fiber Dog Foods?

My dog currently is on a prescription high fiber food called DCO from Purina. in the last year, the bag sizes have been reduced by 20% and the cost increased by more than 100%.(Now for an 8# bag versus for a 10# bag a year ago) What "over the counter" dog food has the highest fiber content that might be an adequate substitute for DCO?

What is the purpose of the high fiber diet? Is it for colitis? I use California Natural for my dog with the "sensitive" digestive system. After 2 months of awful, smelly, runny stools during the food change he is now going normally, and I am thrilled with the results.

Some dogs get put on high fiber diets when the real cause of stomach upset is allergy. In such cases, a food like this would be a perfect fit. If the dog needs more fiber, you can always add it with Metamucil or even with food supplementation (there are many high fiber foods you can add to his food, such as Bran Buds or brown rice).

Offhand, I can’t name a single dog food that I’m familiar with that contains fiber at the 10% level, as the DCO does. Healthwise Lamb & Oatmeal contains 6% fiber, and is an excellent food (manufactured by Natura, who also makes Innova and California Natural). Nutrisource PureVita line also has a 6% fiber ratio, and is a more than decent food. Earthborn has 6%, and is a decent food.
