dog food brands with high % fiber!?

my rescued 1 year old maltese has the worst digestive system. he can’t digest any can food apart from the one the vet. it’s from HILL’S w/d (5.0% of fiber) which is for dogs with cronic constipation. it works wonders. no constipation or anything *touch wood* but i feel so sorry for him as he has to eat the same type of food all the time. no variations like my other 2. they get chicken or beef or lamb etc. all different flavours. he can only have this one type. is there any other brand of can food that has a very high percentage in fiber with lot’s of different flavours!?
thanks!

Canidae has 4% fiber. http://www.canidae.com Comes in lamb and rice -and- chicken and rice.

California Natural is made for sensative stomachs and for dogs with allergies: http://naturapet.com/brands/california-natural.asp
You can use the dry food with some of the wet mixed in. I am currently switching my dogs to this for some more variety in their food.
I’m looking at their Sweet Potatoe and Salmon and it says this: Protein 12.99 %

Ask your vet too about that just to make sure. and remember to switch dog food SLOWLY.

Plus both of these foods are healthy :]

    Hope that helps!

i dont see why you couldnt mix high fiber human food in with your other animals caned dog food or dry food this way he not only gets a vairiety of different foods and he gets an all natural fiber that he could possably find in the wild.

Ask your vet before giving fido people food. My vet thinks carrots and yams are beneficial, but I have an 80 pound dog with no health problems (other then the terrible Boxer gas). especially not, caffine, chocolate, and grapes are known to be very dangerous for dogs, so please be careful. Our Malamute got into a bag of chocolate hearts on valentines day, and we spent the next few hours in doggy ER. Trust me, you don’t want to be in that situation.

Is it dry dog food or canned food? Either way you could mix it with something flavorful, another flavor of canned food or something. Try mixing puppy food with it. Puppy food will be easy on its stomach. Also, you could try putting Cheerios or plain rolled oats in with some flavorful food. It would add a lot of fiber and your dog would like it. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Most dogs really aren’t bothered by getting the same kind of food all the time. Anyway, if you really really want to give him a little variety, you could try mixing in a SMALL amount of your other dogs’ food with his. This will give him a bit of a different flavor, but as long as the majority of the food is the w/d then it shouldn’t cause problems. You can also call your vet and see if they can get the w/d in another flavor (many of the hill’s canned foods come in several flavor options now, maybe w/d is one of them). If it doesn’t, you can ask your vet for information to get in touch with Hill’s and suggest that they add other flavors to their w/d product line (Hill’s actually does appreciate customer feedback and have made many changes over the years based on what vets and their clients have told them). Unfortunately, canned food generally isn’t very high in fiber so I doubt you’ll find what you’re looking for in another brand. Another thing you can add to his food for a little variety is some pumpkin (the canned kind that’s just pumpkin, not the pumpkin pie mix, works). Pumpkin is good for both diarrhea and constipation and most dogs seem to like it.

dogs just don’t think quite the same way as people. We see food and think, "aw, i had that a couple days ago". Dogs see it and say "WOW….food!". Because they think in the moment they really don’t get bored with things. Changing up foods , even changing up varieties of the same kind of food can cause digestive upsets, too.
Relax, and as long as she eats it and is healthy you’ll both be fine.
